One person was injured in a hit-and-run accident on the Garden State Parkway in Bloomfield on April 9. The 63-year-old male victim, from Perth Amboy, had been changing a flat tire when a 43-year-old woman driving a 2014 Nissan Altima hit him.
According to New Jersey State police, the pedestrian-car accident occurred just before 1 a.m. on the southbound side of the parkway. The woman, from Jersey City, stopped her vehicle after the collision, collected some debris belonging to her car and left the scene, leaving the victim seriously injured. The man was later taken to University Hospital in Newark with a compound leg fracture.
The woman was arrested a week later and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury, assault by auto and various other charges. She was being held at Essex County Jail. Her bail was set at $50,000 with a 10 percent option. It was unclear why the woman had fled. However, in similar hit-and-run situations, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, distracted driving and speeding have all been factors.
In a case like this, the victim might consider filing a personal injury claim to recover damages.
